To update email server settings in Mac Mail, go to Mail > Settings (or Preferences) > Accounts, select your account, and click Server Settings. Disable “Automatically manage connection settings” to manually edit Host Names, Usernames, Passwords, and Ports (typically 993 for IMAP, 587/465 for SMTP).
Steps to Update Server Settings in Mac Mail
Open Settings: Open the Mail app and select Mail in the top menu bar, then choose Settings (or Preferences in older macOS).
Select Account: Click the Accounts tab and select the specific email account you need to update from the left-hand sidebar.
Access Server Settings: Click on the Server Settings tab.
Modify Incoming/Outgoing Settings:
Uncheck the box labeled “Automatically manage connection settings” to reveal editable fields.
Update Host Name: Change the Incoming and Outgoing (SMTP) server names as provided by your email host (glacier.mxrouting.net).
Update Ports & SSL: Ensure the correct port is used (e.g., 993 for IMAP, 465 or 587 for SMTP) and ensure “Use SSL/TLS” is checked for security.
Verify Authentication: Ensure the username (usually your full email address) and password are correct.
Save Changes: Click Save or Choose to apply the new settings.
– (Please make sure to use Server Hostname, which is now: glacier.mxrouting.net in your Hostname Server Settings)
Most of the settings will remain the same that you are currently using, other than the Server Hostname, which is now: glacier.mxrouting.net
Your email password will remain the same, unless you’ve received a separate email with an updated password.
Techniques for Backing up or Saving your Email:
If you’re using Outlook on Windows (desktop app)
This is the easiest and most complete method.
Option 1: Export everything to a backup file (recommended)
This creates a single file you can restore later.
- Open Outlook
- Click File (top-left)
- Click Open & Export
- Click Import/Export
- Choose Export to a file → Next
- Select Outlook Data File (.pst) → Next
- Choose your email account
- ✔️ Check Include subfolders
- Click Next
- Choose where to save the file (USB drive, external hard drive, cloud folder)
- Click Finish
- (Optional) Set a password, or just click OK
✅ You now have a full email backup in a .pst file.
If you’re using Outlook for Mac
Mac Outlook also supports export, but it’s even simpler.
- Open Outlook
- Click Tools in the top menu
- Select Export
- Choose Outlook for Mac Data File (.olm)
- Select what to back up (Mail, Calendar, Contacts, etc.)
- Click Continue
- Choose where to save the file
- Click Save
✅ Your emails are backed up in an .olm file.
If you’re using Outlook on the Web (Outlook.com / Microsoft 365 in browser)
There’s no one-click full backup here, but you’ve got two easy alternatives
Option 1: Use the desktop Outlook app
If your web email is connected to Outlook desktop, just follow the Windows steps above.
Option 2: Save important emails manually
For a few critical emails:
- Open an email
- Click ⋯ (More actions)
- Choose Save as or Print → Save as PDF
Good for legal or important records, not great for full backups.
